TRAVEL BLOG:
For those of you who want to read about my adventures abroad, starting from the very beginning, you may read everything I have posted about
Italy in general, about my semester in
Rome, or in
Milan.

Chi Cerca Trova

Home Sweet Home

After a very long and boring transatlantic flight, and a few days with my lovely boyfriend, I’m back home just in time for a good ol’ American independence day.

Tomorrow I will be spending the day with my little brother (who had a growth spurt and is now taller than me, at the age of 12) and my stepfather. We’ll be going to a friend’s house and watching fireworks and grilling. I’m really back in the US of A.

It’s good to be back, but I miss things about Italy already. I miss the public transportation, the gelato, the aperitivi, the way people walk, the prosciutto, and especially, the old people who congregate and talk on the sides of the street. There’s too much space in the US, but I’m happy to have a dryer and to be driving my car again. I’m happy to be able to ask for anything without preparing myself first, happy to know the language, happy not to be a foreigner. But, I suppose, all that comfort will become boring as time goes on, and I’ll want to immerse myself elsewhere. We’ll see!

As far as this Tumblr goes, I think it’s time to say goodbye. I might post one or two more things that are relevant to my study abroad experience in the near future, but Tumblarity has really put me off to Tumblr. Plus it’s just not productive!

So farewell, thanks for reading my travel blog, and safe travels to all!

We saw an adorable puppy in the Gelateria. I got out to the islands of Murano and Burano. These crazily colorful umbrellas are from Burano, an island with pastel colored housing :)

Less than one week!

I returned safely from Bulgaria yesterday, and I’ve already started packing up for the states. I leave June 30th, with mixed feelings.

Of course at this point I’m anxious to get home, see my friends, see my boyfriend, get American pizza…but unlike last semester, I don’t have the comfort of knowing when I will return to Italy.

Of course I’ll be back! But who knows under what conditions?

Tonight is the Subsonica concert, and tomorrow I leave early in the morning for Venice. I come back from Venice on the 26th, and then have a mere 4 days to say goodbye to Milan. It doesn’t seem like enough time.

I’m sad to leave Italy, because at this point I’m comfortable here. I make friends wherever I go, and I haven’t gotten over being able to actually communicate in Italian.

Well, life goes on!

It’s made from milk and seasoned with vinegar, garlic, and chili pepper. It also contains tripe. It is served with huge hunks of bread and is DELICIOUS. I ate tons of great food in Bulgaria.

They gave me organic soap from France and wished me well.

Both Sharon and Ximena teared up as they hugged me goodbye, but little Ariel had no idea what “I’m leaving forever,” means. He told me he loved me as I was leaving then said, “Now is Paolo coming?” Haha so easily replaced! Ximena told me, “Non Dimenticare Italiano,” (Don’t forget Italian!).

Working for them is what really improved my italian. I had to help Davide with his homework, talk to Ximena and all of Davide’s friends from school, and run errands, all while practicing Italian. It really helped having a little 8 year old dictionary around!

I also finished my semester today! I got a 27 for History of Medieval Lombardy. Not bad!

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Bulgaria. I don’t come back until the 23rd, and I am not bringing my laptop. So, talk to you later!

I get to see these guys in concert on the 24th in...

I get to see these guys in concert on the 24th in Milan!

Subsonica/Strade

“Vorrei che fossi con me, che fossi qui.”

I wish that you were with me, that you were here.

XD

pollicinor:

So the results for the new ATM (Milan’s public transportation system) website aren’t so great…, but the site is much better than it was before. I remember not being able to find anything at ALL, and it was super ugly. So just imagine how bad it was before if 48% don’t like it now, and 69% don’t find what they’re looking for!

I split 2 kilos of cherries with Tamara, which are delicious,...

I split 2 kilos of cherries with Tamara, which are delicious, after being talked into it with a sample provided by the man pictured here.
